William Patterson grew up on a dairy farm in Epworth, Georgia. Though both of his parents were from the area, he lived his first few years in Michigan where his father found work at a local factory. Though William spent some time in Michigan and Florida seeking out more opportunities, he returned to Fannin County where he worked at the Tennessee Copper Company.
