Colored Town
Dublin Core
Title
Colored Town
Description
Many residents who grew up in Blue Ridge remembered the area of town that African Americans occupied as colored town, and not much else. Further investigation revealed a well kept cemetery. There was also a plaque dedicated to the school that operated there until 1964, and the Padgett's Chapel AME church. Padgett's Chapel was one of the historic buildings surveyed and added to GNAHRGIS. The information listed below pertains to that specific structure.
Date
The earliest burial in the cemetery was in 1908, but the oldest person in the cemetery was born in 1868.
